Accelerate your Input of Information
Audio Programs
For audio listening, use Foobar 2000 and the SoundTouch plug-in : http://pelit.koillismaa.fi/plugins/show.php?id=199
Set the tempo to 40% more or less depending on the speaker speed and your capacity to process.
Video programs
For video watching use Cyberlink PowerDVD or Gom Video Player. Gom Video Player is free and you can press B to bookmark a position, C to accelerate tempo and X to deaccelerate. You can set the speed to 1.5 or 2.
Writing
For writing articles use Dragon Naturally Speaking. It allows you to dictate your articles directly and it recognize everything you say. Voice recoignition really works!
Choose Material You Are Going to Spend Time With Wisely
I used to store gigas of information and only read about 1% or less, and then I read articles and books that don’t have any relevance with my current situation and never get to apply things. I then started applying a new concept : relevant reading by practice. I’ll only download materials relevant to my current situation so I can read and apply at the same time.
Why reading a book about list building if I don’t intend to build a list yet? Why reading a book about consulting if I can’t apply any of its technique yet? Why watching a NLP course if I don’t have anyone to practice this with ? If I can’t put some material into practice immediately, I’ll just avoid reading it until it became relevant. I know about its existance, but no need to read it for now. This can be obvious to some of you, but it was a true revelation for me (and a great time-saver).
Accelerate Your Own Tempo
Donald Trump said :
My own tempo is fast. When I conduct a meeting, I need those present to keep up with me, to be on the same page. The people who work with me know my pace, and they’ve adjusted to it. My employees know that I like to work quickly, so they prepare for meetings. We don’t waste time, so we move rapidly at my speed.
If you think your tempo is too slow, here are tips to speed it up:
Decide if you’re satisfied with your tempo or if you should speed it up or maybe even slow it down.
Look at yourself; see what tempo is natural to you. Become aware of that tempo and how well it works for you.
Monitor the people around you and determine how well they keep up. Plan how you can demonstrate your new tempo to them. Perhaps you could change your pace in increments instead of changing all at once.
Running a business is like being an orchestra conductor. How well your people perform is your responsibility. Direction flows from the top, and you’re the maestro.
So accelerate your tempo! My own tips for this is to use a fast baroque music. Use Foobar for example and accelerate the music. Within minutes, your tempo of working will increase almost unconsciously to follow up with the speed of the music.
